IronKey Basic S1000 Encrypted Flash Drive Review

by Audrey Liang - March 28, 2016
Review

The 2016 election year is here; Hillary Clinton is trying hard to pull herself out of the email scandal, Apple fights against the FBI to protect its iPhone users’ privacy, and almost everybody is being hacked today. These events point to one big issue--data security. If you are a government employee, a C-suite in a big company or just want to keep your personal sensitive data safe and portable, what can you do?  One possible solution is to get an IronKey Basic S1000 USB 3.0 Encrypted Flash Drive.

The IronKey Basic S1000 drive is one of the safest flash drives in terms of both physical design and hardware encryption. The IronKey Basic S1000 has a military-grade, sleek and ruggedized enclosure to protect the flash drive from physical tampering. However, the cap is not attached to the flash drive so you’ll have to be careful not to lose it.  The S1000 flash drive features FIPS 140-2 Level 31, AES 256-bit hardware encryption and IronKey Cryptochip encryption to keep your data secure. In addition, IronKey drives protect against brute force password attacks with embedded self-destruct and reset functions.

The IronKey Basic S1000 USB 3.0 flash drive has twice the capacity of its 2.0 version and provides up to 128GB storage. Although IronKey claims the read rate of the S1000 is up to 400MB/s, its actual read rate may not reach that speed due to the encryption and security measures used by the drive. Even though it’s faster than many other security drives in the market, some other encrypted flash drives may have better read performance.

The IronKey Basic S1000 drive requires no special knowledge or software for installation. When you plug the flash drive into your computer for the first time, the IronKey software pops up, then you can set your password, choose self-destruct mode or reset mode, and you’re all set. If you want to manage all the IronKey drives in your corporation remotely, such as disable, terminate, or repurpose drives, you can upgrade your Basic S1000 drives to include IronKey Enterprise Management Server. If the highest security standard is what you are seeking for, IronKey Basic S1000 USB 3.0 Encrypted Flash Drive is the choice.

SanDisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive Review

by Priya Modi - November 12, 2015
Review

Youíre at the doctor for a visit. Itís the usualósit in a waiting room reading mindless magazines. Or you could make your time worth it. You notice your mobileís storage device is taken up by several chunky files ranging from photos to videos. With the help of the SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick, you can free up your phoneís space or any deviceís space for that matter.

The SanDisk stick is a USB drive without the extra step of plugging. It connects to smartphones, tablets, and computers. Whether in a pocket or a purse, you can take control of your content from anywhere. It includes the USB connector to directly plug into the computer as well. If you want to enjoy a movie night with your buddies, just transfer HD videos and other large files onto it. Swap out micro SD cards so you can store one movie on one SD card and so forth.

The setup is easy as pie. It only needs to connect to the password-protected Wi-Fi network.  Once the application is downloaded, you can easily manage your files. Need back-up? The app can auto-backup your files to the drive. Concerns? Yesóbut just a couple: security and charging.  Since the stick is on a wireless network, there may be potential to get hacked. If there is suspicion, you can turn off the flash drive and youíre safe.

So imagine Itís the end of the day and youíre unwinding just plug it in your phone, iPad, andÖ now the flash drive charges. The extra step is worthwhile given that you can be using the stick while itís charging on your tablet, PC and phoneóall at the same time. Cool enough? The SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick is hassle-free and deserves a round of applause.
